Geoconservation Day at Riddlesdown Chalk Quarry

Celebrating International Geodiversity Day 2022 with Geoconservation at Riddlesdown Chalk Quarry

Although the annual date for International Geoconservation Day is set for 6 October, this event will now take place on Saturday 22 October 2022 (please note change of date from 1st because of scheduled rail strike that day).’

Organised by the London Geodiversity Partnership in conjunction with the London Branch of the Open University Geological Society and City of London Corporation.

Liam Gallagher will guide on the geology. The large Riddlesdown Chalk Quarry south of Croydon in the North Downs is the best location to examine chalk in the London area. Rory Mortimore drew up conservation plans some years ago and the City of London Corporation, who own the site, have implemented them ever since.

Registration details: Please register on the London Branch Online Form and if you have friends or relatives who may be interested, do bring them along too. Each individual will need to register separately: www.ougs.org/london/events.
